Medcenter One Wound and Ostomy Care Center

The Wound and Ostomy Care Center offers services for both inpatient hospital care and outpatient care. Our center has a dedicated staff that is certified in wound and ostomy care. We continually strive to improve the health and wellness of our patients.

Wound care services

Medcenter One’s Wound and Ostomy Care Center provides comprehensive care to people with chronic or hard to heal wounds. We assist hospital nursing staff in prevention and treatment of injuries to our inpatient population, as well as offer outpatient clinic services to the community.

Many wounds are preventable, and all wounds need to be properly managed for optimal outcomes. Our certified staff is knowledgeable about up-to-date products and treatments. We incorporate a team of specialists to help treat patients with chronic or hard-to-heal wounds.

  • Pressure ulcers
  • Surgical incisions
  • Draining wounds
  • Traumatic wounds
  • Neuropathic ulcers
  • Vascular ulcers
  • Fistulas/tubes

Ostomy services

The Wound and Ostomy Care Center also provides support for individuals who, because of disease or injury of the digestive system, have needed an ostomy operation. An ostomy is an opening in the abdominal wall for waste products to move out of the body. Patients undergoing ostomy surgery, whether temporary or permanent, can require intensive physical and emotional care to return to their normal daily lives.

Services include:

  • Pre-surgical counseling, teaching and site marking for individuals contemplating or planning ostomy surgery
  • Post-surgery teaching and appliance fitting
  • Diagnosis and treatment of irritation around the ostomy
  • Re-assessment yearly and as needed
  • Refitting and updating with the newest ostomy products available

Conditions treated include:

  • Colostomies
  • Ileostomies
  • Urinary diversions
  • Continent diversions
  • Fistulas/tubes
