About the founder

Sherry Lebed Davis, once a professional dancer and dance movement specialist, along with her physician/surgeon brothers, developed the Lebed Method, now known as Healthy-Steps, in 1979. Healthy-Steps was created for their mother who had survived breast cancer. In 1996, the teacher became the student and the journey came full circle when Lebed Davis herself became a breast cancer survivor and found Healthy-Steps helped her continue her quality of life as she knew it.

Facts about Healthy-Steps

  • Developed by medical specialists
  • Supported by several medical studies
  • First hospital-based program of its kind
  • More than 600 hospitals, cancer centers, fitness centers and community centers across the world are using the program
  • Recognized by the American Cancer Society and the National Lymphedema Network

Testimony

“As a breast cancer survivor, I dread lymphedema,” said Jan Menge, participant of Medcenter One’s Healthy-Steps class. “When I heard there was a class that helps reduce the risk, I took advantage of it. The class was fun and exciting, yet easy and safe for me.”
