Scarring/reconstructive surgery

Does Medcenter One offer reconstructive surgery?
Yes. Weight-loss surgery patients are excellent candidates for reconstructive surgery to remove excess skin after drastic weight loss. We offer reconstructive surgery such as breast reductions, arm/thigh/hip reductions, tummy tucks and many other options.
Is there anything I can do to reduce the appearance of scars?
Leave the tape on your incisions for as long as possible. Some patients use vitamin E gel caps to help the scar heal better.
Is there anything I can do to prevent hanging skin after weight loss?
Exercise can help, but if you lose an excessive amount of weight, more than likely you will have hanging skin.
Why do some patients' skin sag and others do not?
It depends on how much weight you lost, how elastic your skin is, your age and how long you have been overweight.
What is a panniculectomy?
Removal of the extra skin and fat that make the "apron" that hangs over your pubic area. Plastic surgeons refer to it as an abdominoplasty.
Who would qualify for panniculectomy?
It is usually based on the grade of the panniculus and the patient's wishes.
