Volunteering
Medcenter One volunteer services extends an invitation to prospective volunteers to become a part of its health care team.
A hospital volunteer is a person who donates their time, skills and supports the work of hospital staff. They are dedicated individuals whose work benefits patients, families, staff and the community. Medcenter One has a volunteer program for adults and juniors.
As a volunteer, you will be asked to wear a uniform, meet health requirements, attend orientation and on-the-job training.

Adult volunteers
Requirements
- Must be age 19 or older.
- Must complete an application form.
- Must have a personal interview.
- Must attend orientation.
- Must have medical clearance for a tuberculosis skin and Rubella test.
- Must wear a regulation uniform.
- Must work a minimum of two hours per week.
We expect our volunteers to:
- Be prompt and dependable.
- Accept supervision gracefully.
- Maintain a high standard of conduct.
- Be honest and cooperative.
- Observe all medical center rules.
As an adult volunteer you may:
- Provide clerical assistance in various departments.
- Deliver flowers, mail, books and magazines to patients.
- Read to patients and write letters for patients.
- Assist in preparing patient supplies, packets and mailings.
- Direct and escort patients and visitors, and offer assistance.
- Assist staff on nursing floors and rehab departments.
- Assist with special events (open houses, health fairs, screening clinics and seminars).

Junior volunteers
Requirements
- Young men and women must be between 13 and 18 years old and be in the 8th grade by fall.
- A consent to volunteer form must be signed.
- Two written character references.
- Complete an application form.
- A personal interview.
- Medical consent for minors by parents/guardians.
As a junior volunteer you will be required to:
- Wear a regulation uniform.
- Work a minimum of six (6) hours per month during the school year and
four (4) hours a week during summer vacation.
We expect our junior volunteers to:
- Be prompt and dependable.
- Accept supervision gracefully.
- Maintain a high standard of conduct.
- Be honest and cooperative.
- Observe all medical center rules.
As a junior volunteer you may:
- Provide clerical work in various departments.
- Provide delivery service.
- Transport patients by wheelchair.
- Provide reading material to patietns via a bookcart.
- Assist with special projects.
- Assist staff on nursing floors and rehab departments.
