Frequently asked questions

Are there certain courses I need to take in high school prior to going into radiography?

There are no required high school courses, but it may be beneficial to have taken anatomy and physics.

Are there college requirements prior to applying to the radiography program at Medcenter One?

Students should follow the curriculum for the radiologic technology degree at one of the four college or universities to which the Medcenter One Radiography Program is affiliated. The Medcenter One Radiography Program accepts students from the University of Mary, Minot State University, Jamestown College, and NDSU, Fargo.

What if I have a degree in something else already?

You still must complete the required courses toward a degree in Radiologic Technology, at one of the college/universities listed above, prior to starting the Program here.

Am I automatically accepted to the program once I have completed the required courses in college?

No. The Medcenter One Radiography Program accepts approximately 5 students per year. There is an acceptance process which includes interviews with prospective students.

How much tuition do I have to pay?

You must pay tuition to the college or university of attendance to which you continue to be enrolled during your internship, since they will be granting your degree. You will receive a certificate from the Medcenter One School of Radiography upon completion of your education.

What kind of job can I expect to get when I am done?

You could get a job as a staff radiographer, or with additional training/education, you can work in CT, MRI, ultrasound, or nuclear medicine. You may also work in sales, administration, or as an educator in the field of radiologic technology.

Tuition

While enrolled in the Radiography Program, students must pay tuition each semester to the college/university to which they are enrolled, including summers.

Minot State University students must pay summer tuition directly to Medcenter One Radiography Program, which is approximately $600—$900, per summer. All policies regarding payment must be paid according to the college of attendance.

Financial aid

The Medcenter One Radiography Program does not administer student financial aid programs. Financial aid arrangements must be made through the college of attendance.

Housing

All students are responsible for their own housing and transportation to and from school.

Educational facilities

The Medcenter One radiology department is the clinical education facility for students. Students also have rotations to computed tomography, ultrasonography, and nuclear medicine, which are all located within the hospital.

While in the radiography program, students receive educational experience in diagnostic radiology, fluoroscopy, surgery/mobile procedures, trauma, and also orthopedics, which is located in the building directly across the street. Students also have opportunities to observe at the Bismarck Cancer Center and the Medcenter One MRI Center, which are located within one block of the hospital.

Radiography

Classroom facilities are located at the College of Nursing building of Medcenter One. Students in the Radiography Program have use of the Medcenter One Health Sciences Library. Computers are available in the library for student use.
