I'm a big brother/big sister

The I'm a big brother/big sister program at Birthcenter One will help prepare children and their parents for the birth of their new baby.

Who should attend?

Children ages 3—7 who will be a new big brother or sister.

What will you learn?

Children will learn the importance of becoming a big brother or sister. This will help reduce the feelings of jealousy and resentment they may feel towards their new sibling.

Parents will be given information about parenting and the new experience of adding another child to the family circle.

Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics as the food of choice for babies up to age one. Many mothers find breastfeeding to be a very fulfilling experience.

The class instructor is a breast feeding specialist and a registered nurse at Birthcenter One.

Cost

The Breastfeeding class is $10 per mother/couple payable at pre-registration.

Who should attend?

Women who are interested in breastfeeding their baby. We recommend registering during the fifth month of your pregnancy.

What will you learn?

  • Benefits of breastfeeding
  • Preparation and methods to get off to a good start
  • Problem prevention and treatment
  • Common concerns and questions
  • Working while nursing

Infant massage

Who should attend?

Parents and baby (age birth to 9 months).

What will you learn?

Increase your ability to communicate with your baby by understanding infant stress cues and learning massage techniques (complimentary bottle of massage oil is included).

Well-baby clinic

A well-baby clinic is offered every Tuesday (except holidays) from 1—3 p.m. and an evening well-baby clinic the first Tuesday of each month from 5—7 p.m.

The clinic is located at Birthcenter One, on 5th floor of the hospital using elevator C.

No appointments are needed. Just stop by during the clinic hours and a registered nurse will weigh your baby and answer any questions you may have.

This is an opportunity for you to join us and gain educational experience that will benefit not only your baby, but also your family. It also allows you to meet other families with babies, too!
