Accreditations/designations

Medcenter One is a non-profit, integrated health system headquartered in Bismarck with clinic locations in Bismarck, Dickinson, Jamestown, Mandan and Minot. Medcenter One consists of a 228-bed hospital, four multi-specialty clinics, a college of nursing, seven primary care clinics, three kidney dialysis centers, three occupational health clinics, four walk-in clinics, four long-term care facilities and a comprehensive group of health services in western and central North Dakota. Key accreditations and quality awards include: Joint Commission, American College of Surgeons Level II Emergency and Trauma Center, and Magnet Recognition Program®.

2011 awards, designations and accreditations

Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement, and Spine Surgery by Blue Cross Blue Shield
The Blue Distinction designation was created to recognize healthcare organizations that meet stringent quality criteria, as established by expert physician panels and national organizations. By meeting these requirements, the recognized centers demonstrate better outcomes and consistency of care and provide greater value for patients.

Medcenter One receives a Joint Commission accreditation renewal.

Medcenter One’s perioperative staff receives the Surgical Information Systems Patient Impact Award. The award recognizes Medcenter One for success in increasing surgical care measurements that have a positive effect on patient safety.

Medcenter One earns Interdisciplinary Group Recognition Award from the National Academies of Practice.

Medcenter One Laboratory and the Medcenter One Histocompatibility Laboratory receive accreditation designations by the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

Maggie, Medcenter One Dakota Children’s Advocacy Center’s (DCAC) registered therapy dog, is named Pet of the Year in the professional category by the North Dakota Veterinary Medical Association.

A study released in the September edition of Consumer Reports gives Drs. Timothy Pansegrau and Sean Russell, Medcenter One cardiovascular surgeons, a ranking of three stars, which is the highest ranking possible. They are the only ones in the region to gain this distinction.

The Medcenter One Mandan Living Center is awarded a National Quality Award from the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living.

The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has awarded Medcenter One Cancer Care Center accreditation with commendation.

The Medcenter One Diabetes Care Center recently received recognition from the American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Program.

Medcenter One awarded rehabilitation accreditation

carf logo Medcenter One was recently re-accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for three years for the following: inpatient rehabilitation programs—hospital (adults) and inpatient rehabilitation programs—hospital (children and adolescents). This is the ninth consecutive three-year accreditation outcome that CARF has awarded to Medcenter One. Read more »

Reverified as Level II Trauma Center
The American College of Surgeons has reverified Medcenter One as a Level II Trauma Center. This achievement recognizes the trauma center’s dedication to providing high quality care for injured patients.

Level II is the highest possible verification Medcenter One is able to achieve. Medcenter One was initially designated as Level II in 1995.

Digital mammography accreditation
Medcenter One Mandan Family Clinic North becomes accredited in digital mammography as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

The American College of Radiology (ACR) awards Medcenter One a three-year term of accreditation in mammography as the result of a recent review. The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety.

100 Top Hospitals® for cardiovascular care by Thomson Reuters
Thomson 2009 logo The annual Thomson Reuters award for cardiovascular services independently measures performance on eight key criteria related to cardiovascular care at the nation’s top performing acute care hospitals.

Level II Trauma Center
Medcenter One is designated by the state of North Dakota and verified by the American College of Surgeons as a Level II Trauma center. The hospital and medical staff are committed to excellence in trauma care.

Medcenter One’s cardiac rehab awarded recertification
Medcenter One’s cardiac rehabilitation program was recently awarded national recertification from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACPR).

Medcenter One’s cardiac rehab is a medically supervised program designed to help heart patients recover more quickly and to improve their overall physical, mental and social functioning. Cardiac rehab also helps patients decrease their risk for another cardiac event. National research shows that cardiac death is 26 percent lower in patients who participated in a certified rehabilitation program, compared with those who did not.

Medcenter One Cancer Care Center awarded accreditation with commendation

Commission on Cancer The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has awarded Medcenter One Cancer Care Center accreditation with commendation. The commission provides accreditation to cancer programs that voluntarily choose to apply and prove to have a commitment to provide the full scope of services required to diagnose, treat, rehabilitate and support those with cancer and their families. The center is accredited through 2011.
